The meteorological agency says severe winter pressure intensified on Wednesday morning, bringing the coldest air mass of the season over Japan. The cold weather resulted in heavy snowfalls, mainly in areas along the Sea of Japan coast from western to northern Japan. Hiruzen in Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture saw 88 centimeters of snow in the 24 hours to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Daisen from Tottori Prefecture was 79 centimeters tall during the same period. Snow has also accumulated at lower elevations, where there is usually little snow. As of 11 a.m., 10 centimeters of snow had fallen in Kyoto City and 6 centimeters in Mie Prefecture’s Tsu City. Temperatures across the country have dropped to near their lowest levels in a decade. Lows on Wednesday morning fell t
