Severe flood and storm in Calabria, Italy A torrential rain in the Italian region of Calabria has caused severe flooding in the provinces of Crotone, inflicting extensive damage. The regional government has declared a state of emergency in response to the flooding crisis. Italy’s firefighting and rescue service has carried out over 400 operations to mitigate the floods, rescuing 200 individuals in the process. The heavy rain also affected the neighboring Sicily, where sections of the road network in the province of Palermo were submerged.
