I see basic jokes, simple stories, and repetitive tropes from a writing and directing perspective that seems so.. unearned. A script where no one is trying. Since modern day Pixar feels so corporate and safe. Maybe I’m wrong! I hope to be, since ironically enough I am rooting for Elio. Pixar is now an underdog studio. Or at least that’s how it seems.
