BRASS FROM THE PAST: Reproduction of an ancient “Carnyx” which was a Celtic Iron Age Trumpet. It was used between 300 BC and A.D. 200 in western and central Europe and beyond. It was found in a peat bog at the farm of Leitchestown, Deskford, Banffshire, Scotland in 1816. Most likely placed there as a sacrificial ritual deposit. Used in war and for ritual ceremonies. The wild boars head bell represented a symbolic meaning of strength and power. The Carnyx was played in an upright position so that the boars head bell protruded well above the heads of the Warriors. Its primary purpose was to increase the level of noise and confusion on the battlefield. Other Carnyces have been found in France, Germany, Romania and Switzerland. Listen to sounds from the past. About 2000 years ago more or less.
