Anne Shirley arrives at a rural train station in Prince Edward Island. She meets Matthew Cuthbert who has come to collect her. He is confused and unsure what to do. Reluctantly, he decides to take her to Green Gables, the farm he owns with his sister Marilla, in the village of Avonlea.
