Beare allegedly attacked Hoosen-Preston, her husband, and her son in their home on 2 June, claiming she laughed at his cousins in Israel being killed. While Hoosen-Preston died at the scene, her husband and son remain hospitalized with serious injuries. Authorities apprehended Beare at the scene with a blood-stained knife. The victim’s daughter believes the attack was motivated by their support for Palestine. Beare, who appeared in court in ankle cuffs, will undergo a mental examination before his next court date on 11 June. His family expressed condolences and highlighted Beare’s history of mental illness and substance abuse. There has been a rise in attacks on pro-Palestine activists in the country since the recent escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
