Tubeless Tyres (1953)

Birmingham, West Midlands. Various shots of puncture-proof tyres being tested on a suburban road (probably testing area at Fort Dunlop). A Humber Hawk car with the special tubeless pneumatic car tyres drives over nails. The pressure is tested before and after and has the same reading for each - 26 lbs. Two men work on tyre sections on benches. One of the men picks up his demonstration tyre section so we see the valve inside. He hammers a nail into the tyre; it goes right through the rubber. A man hammers a nail into the offside front tyre on the Humber Hawk. The car is driven around in circles with the nails in the tyre. Notes and correspondence on file.
