Copyright 1944. Opening titles: Official Films News Thrill Invasion (:06-:20). Title: D-Day!! Allied Forces move across the English Channel. June 6, 1944, huge armada of ships and men head from the English Channel to the coast of France. Ships in the sky cover the convoy at sea. Bombers in the sky. Title: A railroad yard is blasted. Bombs are dropped onto rail yards. Smoke is everywhere. Explosions seen from airplane POV. Title: St. Lo is left blazing. Bombers overhead and cities below filled with smoke (:21-1:59). Title: Caen is hit badly. Caen, France is bombarded with bombs. Nazi targets are hit with tons of bombs. Nazi barges, planes, and railway trains are hit by the Allies. POV from plane cockpit of an attack on Nazi targets. Explosions abound (2:00-3:12). Allied naval guns fire at the land, striking emplacements on the shore. Tons of artillery and bombs are dropped. Battleship USS Nevada, veteran of Pearl Harbor, fires. Soldiers climb down rope walls on the side of ships to get into amphibious landing craft. The landing craft goes across very choppy waters towards the coast of France (3:13-4:12). Title: This is it! Yankee troops go ashore under fire. D-Day invasion of Normandy. Allied troops storm the beaches from amphibious assault craft and LCIs. Two Americans are struck down by gunfire on the beach. Yanks dig in to wait for the next barrage. Americans injured. American huddle under a cliff. Wounded are tended to. Title: Here on a beach in France lay American dead. Bodies float in the surf (4:13-5:41). Title: Troops drive inland. Allies on the move in France. Soldiers carry rifles. British troops arrive and exit their landing craft into the water near the shore. Infantry moves. Allies on land. Equipment is brought to the shore. German prisoners (5:42-7:07). Title: An Allied destroyer brings General Eisenhower to France. Destroyer at sea. Eisenhower meets with Generals Bradley and Montgomery. British Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery shown on a warship. American troops in a French town. French people assist Allies. 10,000 enemy soldiers taken prisoners by the Allies (7:08-8:46). Civilians stand near smoking ruins (8:47-9:01). End credits (9:02-9:06).
