Fly Tying a CDC Bomb Nymph

Often referred to as “bomb“ nymphs here these heavy offerings are usually used to get smaller unweighted flies down to the waiting mouths of fish holding at the bottom of the river. In particular for us here in NZ these are popular on the famous Tongariro River and the other rivers on the Central Plateau of the North Island. I have seen some interesting interpretations of “weighted flies“ over the short time I have been fly fishing. In some cases you would almost class them as a sinker rather than a fishing fly. That being said I believe that these heavy nymphs can be just as fishable as the nymphs we tie off the back of them. The CDC collar on this one as well as the flashy ribbing has proven to be productive pattern for me in the past in one variation or another. Hopefully it will have good results for anyone else who tries it as well. Materials: Hook: Kamasan b110 size 10 Thread: Semperfli brown nano
