В настоящее время вся территория острова объявлена особо охраняемой природной территорией. На острове находятся пять деревень: Юршино, Антоново, Липняги, Обухово, Быково, занимающие юг и центр острова, северная часть острова не населена. Общая численность населения на 1 января 2007 года 43 человека. Центр администрации находится в посёлке Каменники, но примерно такова же доступность и посёлка Судоверфь, в обоих посёлках имеются медицинские амбулатории и школы, а также регулярные автобусные маршруты на Рыбинск. Почтовое обслуживание острова осуществляет отделение в посёлке Судоверфь The island was formed in 1940 on the former right bank of the Volga as a result of land flooding by the Rybinsk Reservoir. There are five villages on the island: Yurshino, Antonovo, Lipnyagi, Obukhovo, Bykovo, occupying the south and center of the island, the northern part of the island is not inhabited. The administration center is located in the village of Kamenniki, but the accessibility of the village of Sudoverf is approximately the same, in both villages there are medical outpatient clinics and schools, as well as regular bus routes to Rybinsk.
