BIRD Theatre Company TOTTORI and TBTB “Ctrl L / A difference of Beauty”【SUB】

Available in EN/ES/FR/JP/KE Subtitles BIRD Theatre Company & Theater Breaking Through Barriers “Ctrl L / A Difference of Beauty” This work was produced for Japan Foundation’s International Creations in Performing Arts 2022. JIYU Gekijo-Freedom Theatre from Japan, which BIRD Theatre Company produces, and Theater Breaking Through Barriers (TBTB) from the US are organizations that continue activities in attempts to reform society’s perception of disability. They have so far worked together to create theater productions, and even during the COVID-19 pandemic carried out creative activities through online exchange. This performance is a re-composed form of the two theatrical works Ctrl L and A Difference of Beauty with the newly added Epilogue. Ctrl L, where great chaos ensues in the rehearsal room of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, is a stage version of a work presented online. A Difference of Beauty is a newly written original monologue play: it was born out of the writer’s interviews with each performer, with their murmurs folding together and becoming a swell of hope. And then, in the Epilogue, what is the relationship between humans…? First performed at “BIRD Theatre Festival TOTTORI 15” in September 2022, it expresses the diverse ways of living and the values of people with and without disabilities, as well as the inner beauty of human beings across borders and disabilities.
