Extreme Weather Pounds Italy’s Liguria: Western Genoa Hardest Hit
The Fegino River has overflowed, resulting in localized flooding, and the Aurelia highway is temporarily closed near Arenzano. In Rivarolo, two families have been evacuated due to the imminent risk of building collapse.
In Genoa, authorities have mandated the closure of schools and outdoor cafes in areas vulnerable to flooding. In Campo Ligure, an extraordinary 97.4 mm of rain fell within just one hour, accumulating to a total of 214 mm throughout the day.
Weather conditions are expected to worsen, prompting a red alert for eastern Liguria and an orange alert for the majority of the region.
