Scientific Name - Nisaetus kelaarti
Legge’s hawk-eagle (Nisaetus kelaarti) is a bird of prey. It breeds in the Indian subcontinent, from southern India to Sri Lanka.
They live in primary evergreen forest and forest patches. There are an estimated 2,000 individuals.
Male Legge’s hawk-eagles are about 70 cm while females about 76 cm in length and weighs about 3kg
Fun Facts
⭐ Its specific name kelaarti honors the physician-zoologist E.F. Kelaart.
⭐ Feeds on small mamals and is sometimes known to pursue prey heavier than itself incuding Indian peafowls (4kg)
