Full Quarter-Mile Big Show Nitro Still Exists!

Did you know that you can still see big show nitro funny cars race over a quarter mile? The only problem is you have to go to Australia to see them! The NHRA reduced the big show nitro cars to 1000 feet following Scott Kalitta’s accident in 2008. The move made the racing safer by effectively extending runoff area, though top speeds are roughly the same now as they were back then. In Australia, the Aeroflow Nitro Funny Cars owned by Graeme Cowin have been running a full quarter mile, running into the four second zone at close to 330mph. These are definitely some brave racers!
