Birka Belt Pouch - Finishing

The Birka Belt Pouch is based on a belt pouch found at Birka. Birka, on the island of Björkö in present-day Sweden, was an important Viking Age trading center which handled goods from Scandinavia and Finland as well as Central and Eastern Europe and the Orient. Birka was founded around AD 750 and it flourished for more than 200 years. It was abandoned c. AD 975 Although usually considered a Viking belt pouch and associated with Birka, the model was found all over the viking world a probably originates from the Magyars, nomadic steppe people from current day Hungary. The pouches are presumably spread throughout the Viking world by traders.
