The Art and Science of Stick Fighting Level 1: The Foundation Part 2: The Nine Basic Strikes There are nine basic strikes. Practice each strike separately at first; checking to make sure you follow the same path each time you strike. Strive for precision as you swing the stick, slowly at first, gradually working up to hard fast whipping motions. Drilling these nine basic strikes will begin your study of proper body mechanics, specifically your body’s relationship to the stick and the floor. You will learn about the space you occupy, the space in front, and the space around you. Drilling in the fundamental strikes teaches you distancing, range, striking surfaces, and tip control. You will also learn how to deliver power by moving from your core. Use a mirror or video camera to check yourself.
