THE LARGEST OFFICE BUILDING IN THE WORLD IS LOCATED IN INDIA

Today I read this news article on the CNN website, and its headline is ’The world’s new largest office building is bigger than the Pentagon’. The article displays a description and pictures of the Surat Diamond Bourse in India. And with square feet of office space, the Surat Diamond Bourse indeed is bigger than the Pentagon, and therefore it is the largest office building in the world. Now, of course it IS interesting to see that the largest office building in the world is not located in the US, in Europe or in China. But instead we can find this office building in India, again demonstrating how India is growing on the world stage. But what I also think is remarkable is the way this news is presented by CNN, as if this is actually ’news’. You see, the article is not presented as a background story but instead it is displayed pretty prominent on CNN’s front page and it says “New photos, shared exclusively with CNN, offer a glimpse at the marble floors and light-filled atriums”. Well, when you Google the name of the building, it turns out you can already find pictures of those same marble floors and atriums that have been posted over a tear ago. These pictures are not CGI but show the interior of the actual building. On Youtube there is even a video that has been posted over 6 months ago, showing the completed interior of the same building in full detail, including those marble floors and that wonderful atrium. So, the question is, what was exclusively shared with CNN that the rest of the world couldn’t already find out a full year ago? I know, this is not a serious case of misleading the public and it shouldn’t keep us awake at night. But there is a bit of a weird element in claiming that these pictures of the interior of this building were exclusively shared with CNN, while practiaclly the same images of the same spots in the same building have been avaible to the public for a year now now. So, in this case CNN’s breaking news didn’t do much breaking and there wasn’t much new about this news. So it makes you wonder, how does that work with other news...
