BALLET - Youth America Grand Prix 2022 Finals - Kitri Variation - Anna Inchausti
Anna Inchausti, Age 17, from Master Ballet Academy performs Kitri Variation from Don Quixote at the YAGP 2022 Finals.
Don Quixote is a ballet in three acts. It was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa to the music of Ludwig Minkus and first presented by Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet in 1869. Petipa and Minkus revised the ballet into a more elaborate and expansive version in five acts and eleven scenes for the Mariinsky Ballet, first presented in 1871 at the Imperial Bolshoi Kamenny Theatre of St. Petersburg.
Kitri is the self-willed heroine of the ballet Don Quixote. Her father Lorenzo tries to marry her off for money, but Kitri is in love with a charming barber Basilio who has won her heart. As a role, Kitri is athletic and demanding. She wears red costumes and gestures expressively with a fan in a nod to her Spanish heritage.
