The commentator talks about how thousands of years ago man was restricted by the light of the Sun, however, “Before long he discovered means of making his own light, and fire was his help mate. C/U of someone demonstrating how a fire can be made using a small stick rubbed into a large log. C/U of a diagram of someone holding a burning twig in the Eolithic period. M/S of a diagram of a flaming torch in the Palaeolithic Period. Various more diagrams demonstrating man’s advanced progress with light down the years including the invention of the lamp, and candles. M/S’s of ornate candles and holders in a cathedral. Several more diagrams of advancements made in candlestick holders. The commentator demonstrate how gas can be made. C/U’s of a clay pie being filled with coal dust and then sealed. The bowl of the clay pipe is then heated and a match is put to the end of the stem and a small blue flames
