LIVE: US appeal on Assange extradition heard in court: day 1

Ruptly is live outside at the Royal Court of Justice in London, on Wednesday, October 27, as Julian Assange’s hearing on the US appeal of the court’s previous decision not to extradite him is taking place. On January 4, Judge Vanessa Baraister ruled Assange should not be extradited, saying there’s a great risk that he will commit suicide in US prison. As WikiLeaks founder, Assange faces criminal charges for publishing classified information. He was arrested by British police on 11 April 2019, after taking refuge at the Ecuadorian embassy for nearly seven years, where he was granted asylum.
