Line Of Fire - The Battle for Berlin

This is the story of the final, tragic phase of World War Two. By the early months of 1945, Hitler had lost all grip on the military realities which faced Germany. The Allied Strategic Bombing Offensive had reduced much of Berlin to rubble and by April 25th the Red Army had completely surrounded the city, trapping 500,000 German troops in the western suburbs. These shattered streets became the scenes of bitter hand-to-hand fighting between eight Russian Armies and the pathetic remains of the Home Guard, SS Werhmacht and the Hitler Youth. On April 30, the Reichstag was stormed and the Fuhrer committed suicide. The city and its population lay at the mercy of the Russians, who exacted a terrible revenge.
