Cruiser “Ever Given“ Encircles the Suez Canal (circa 1894)

In the year 1894, during the reign of Queen Victoria and only 35 years after its construction, the Suez Canal was catastrophically blocked by a single cruiser which was on its way to encircle a navial battle in an ongoing late-game great war. The cruiser “Ever Given“ under the command of Captain Jaeger was passing through the canal in order to position itself in a neighbouring province to a naval battle. In a rush to complete the encirclement, the cruiser was lodged on both banks of the canal causing an impassable blockage. World shipping as well as the ongoing great war faced severe disruption for weeks as British authorities scrambled to build up enough machine parts to resolve the problem.
