GENIUS! Elon Musk revealed 3 Next Insane Starship Generations, changing everything...
The next-generation launch vehicle from SpaceX is the world’s most powerful rocket, capable of carrying 100 passengers and cargo to the Moon and Mars. Yes, it’s Starship.
The company has tested and flown multiple prototypes of the spacecraft and is preparing to conduct the third orbital flight in Q1 2024, as expected.
From these successes, Elon Musk wants to further develop his spacecraft with many activities in space, including cleaning up space debris.
Do you remember? In July, 2021, a Twitter user asked Musk if SpaceX would ’try to eventually collect space debris,’ to which Musk replied, “Yes, we can fly Starship around space & chomp up debris with the moving fairing door“.
Musk’s proposed solution would be to use the Starship’s fairing, the clamshell-like structure into which the payload is integrated. The payload fairing measures 9 meter or 29.5 feet in diameter in its standard configuration, allowing for more cargo volume than any other launch vehicle.
When configured for debris, the Starship would most likely open its fairing door and use inertia to scoop up and trap debris in its payload compartment. This is similar to how whales hunt in the sea; they open their mouths as wide as possible to scoop up a large amount of little fish. With an internal volume of 1,100 cubic meters or 38,800 feet 3, the fairing could hold debris eight times the size of a Crew Dragon. Sounds interesting, right?
This isn’t the first time this idea has been talked about, in October 2020, SpaceX President and Chief Operating Officer Gwynne Shotwell said that Starship could potentially help clean up space.“Starship is an extraordinary new vehicle capability. Not only will it decrease the costs of access to space, it’s the vehicle that would transport people from Earth to Mars,” Shotwell said, “But it also has the capability of taking cargo and crew at the same time, and so it’s quite possible that we could leverage Starship to go to some of these dead rocket bodies — other people’s rocket’s, of course — basically pick up some of this junk in outer space,” “There are rocket bodies littering the space environment, and dead satellites littering the space environment.”
She also affirmed “It’s not easy. It’s not going to be easy but I do believe that Starship offers the possibility of going and doing that and I’m really excited about it,”
