Fireball over the Mediterranean Sea (XII a. d. Kalendas Augustas MMDCCLXXV) // Bola de fuego sobre el Mediterráneo (12 a Calendas de Agosto de 2775 AUC)

This bright bolide was spotted over Spain on August 3, at 2:14 local time (equivalent to 0:14 universal time). The event was generated by a rock (a meteoroid) from Comet 169P/NEAT that hit the atmosphere at about 88,000 km/h. The fireball overflew the Mediterranean Sea. It began at an altitude of about 107 km over the sea, moved northeast, and ended at a height of around 81 km. This bright meteor was recorded in the framework of the SMART project, operated by the Southwestern Europe Meteor Network (SWEMN) from the meteor-observing stations located at Ayora, La Hita, CAHA, OSN, La Sagra, and Sevilla. The event has been analyzed by the principal investigator of the SMART project: Dr. Jose M. Madiedo, from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC). ----------------------------------------------- Este vídeo muestra una brillante bola de fuego observada el 3 de agosto a las 2:14 de la noche (hora local peninsular).
