Orcas trapped in ice struggle in the Pacific Ocean

Twelve orcas, including three or four babies, were spotted trapped between blocks of ice in the Nemuro Strait between the Kunashir and Hokkaido Islands. The unfortunate creatures are struggling to get at least some air, jumping out of the water, but there is decreasing room remaining for oxygen. Russian officials addressed the emergency management ministry urging help for the orcas, and there are reportedly vessels nearby that could arrive there in time. The rescue operation might still be successful, but it must be coordinated with Japan first, State Duma member Vladislav Davankov stated.
