Su-27 crash Salgareda Airshow 1990

On 9th September 1990, a Su-27 coded “14 Red“ crashed during an aerobatic display in Salgareda, Italy, killing the LII test pilot Rimas A.A. Stankeavicius. The accident invastigating board established that the aircaft was not to blame. The airfield in Salgareda was generally described as “treacherous“ and “beastly“ to use for aerobatics, because it was surrounded by green fields with no visual reference points for judging altitude and position.
