Prokofiev: Romeo & Juliet - Dance of the Knights

Throwback to the beginning of this season when The Cleveland Orchestra performed selections from Prokofiev’s music inspired by Shakespeare’s most famous love story. The Orchestra will be in Miami, Florida at the end of January performing Acts 3 and 4 of Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet, as well as Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 the following week. The Cleveland Orchestra Franz Welser-Möst, conductor January 17-18 Miami, Florida Knight Concert Hall Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County PROKOFIEV - Symphony No. 2 PROKOFIEV - Acts 3 and 4, from Romeo and Juliet Prokofiev, was a master at musical storytelling, and his ballet score to Shakespeare’s famous love story is his best-known and most passionate score. The music brings Romeo and Juliet and their conflicting families fully to life — with music that is in turn lushly romantic, playfully whimsical, deftly tuneful, poignantly heartfelt, and powerfully overwhelming.
