Hair Sculpture (1962)

London. Various shots of West End hair stylist Freddy French working on a model head with elaborate hairdo, made from tissue paper. He drips melted coloured candle wax over the head to create an abstract effect. Commentator says Freddy tries out new hairstyles on these dummy heads. We see several other heads made by Freddy; one is made from newspaper papier mache with medusa-style hair; Freddy adds seashells to the face and hair of another head - wonderful! Two women stop to look at similar ’heads’ outside Freddy’s hair salon; one ’hair sculpture’ has candles attached like a candelabra. Inside the salon we see Freddy putting the finishing touches to an elaborate hairdo - on a real girl! It looks to me like it is about 5 years ahead of it’s time! A silver or pearl necklace decorates the ’do’ and Freddy places a brooch at the front of the girl’s hair - she looks very pleased with the result. Cuts exist - see separate record.
