After registering three consecutive losses, the Penguins came to Vancouver looking to pick up two points. A scoreless opening period led to a four-goal period for these two teams. Jake Guentzel scored his 11th goal of the season, giving him points in twelve-straight contests. Podkolzin tied things up, 1-1, a few minutes later for the Canucks. Then, Guentzel took over. A parade of penalties taken by Vancouver saw three of the home team’s players sent to the box, resulting in a 5-on-3 man-advantage for Pittsburgh that would stay 5-on-3, so long as they were able to score before the first penalty expired. Guentzel notched his second tally of the evening only 8 seconds into the third Vancouver penalty of that sequence (and sixth of the game), so the two-man advantage would remain.
