Marshal French (1918-1919)

Greece’s Premier Eleutherios Venizelos receives British honours from Marshal French. (He supported Allied Powers during World War One; going against the pro-German King; when the King was forced to abdicate Venizelos led the country into the war on the Allies’ side). The ceremony here takes place in a tent. Venizelos is first presented with a plaque (?) by an old British General wearing a uniform covered with medals. He then gestures towards a cushion on the table before him. The General pins medal on the cushion; then salutes Venizelos and shakes hands. He holds up cushion to camera; it has a Greek cross symbol. Other officers watching (listing says the General here is John French).
