Dr. Konrad Zuse, designer of early mechanical and electromechanical computers, worked before and during World War II. In this video, Dr. Zuse reads a lecture he had delivered as a part of the Los Alamos conference in 1972. He outlines his inventions prior to the war while serving with the military and later as a part of the German aircraft industry. After the war, Zuse was only able to develop computers after 1949. His early machines used mechanical switching to do binary arithmetic
