Dr Yvonne Weekes currently lectures in Theatre and Arts Education at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination at the University of the West Indies. She began teaching English and Drama in London in 1980. Returning to her parents’ home Montserrat in ‘87, she formed the Rainbow Theatre Company and was the first Director of Culture in Montserrat. She moved to Barbados in 1996 as result of the volcanic crisis in Montserrat and became the Theatre Arts Coordinator at the Barbados Community College for 17 years. Her memoir Volcano, published by Peepal Tree Press won the Frank Collymore Award in 2004. Nomad, her first poetry collection, was published by House of Nehesi in 2019. She was awarded best Director for her first short film Grief by the Barbados Video and Film Association awards in 2019. She has been a major resource person for the Caribbean Examinations Council since 1999.
