David Scott, Senior Vice President of Exxon Mobil’s shale oil and gas division, was arrested at a Texas hotel amid merger talks with Pioneer Natural Resources. The arrest occurred at the La Quinta Inn & Suites in Magnolia, Texas. Efforts to contact Scott and determine his legal representation have failed.
Exxon Mobil issued a concise statement acknowledging the allegations and stating that Scott would not continue his work duties during the ongoing investigation. The company emphasized its commitment to ethical conduct among its employees, officers, and directors.
The incident occurred in a budget hotel near Exxon’s Spring, Texas headquarters, involving two women in Scott’s room, one of whom left and alerted law enforcement from the lobby.
Simultaneously, reports suggest that Exxon is in advanced negotiations to acquire Pioneer Natural Resources, potentially valued at around $60 billion, with an official agreement expected soon.
Scott’s career spans 26 years at Exxon, starting as an engineer in Melbourne, Australia, and progressing to leadership roles in Malaysia and Abu Dhabi. In 2020, he assumed Exxon’s Permian Basin operations leadership and later became Senior Vice President for the shale oil and gas division.
Scott now faces a second-degree felony assault charge with a $30,000 bond, carrying potential sentences of two to twenty years in Texas.
