Youth Takes A Header! (1937)

Full title reads: “Youth Takes a Header!“ Woodford, probably Greater London. Diving champions demonstrate warm up techniques and diving skills. Various shots of diving experts, the Laxton brothers, helping diving champions Edna Child (striped swimsuit) and Betty Slade limber up. The girls are very supple and demonstrate this with stretching exercises. Various shots of one of the Laxtons helping Betty do a hand stand, then touch her head with a feet (like a circus contortionist). M/S of Betty practising her “springboard control“ by bouncing up and down on a diving board. Various slow motion shots of the two girl champions demonstrating their diving ability. They do various complicated flips and tumbles off a high diving board into an outdoor swimming pool. Spectators watch diving exhibition from deck chairs beside pool. Note: Commentary confuses dives. The actual dives were as follows: 1. Swallow dive 2. Reverse dive piked 3. Inward pike 4. Flying front somersault 5.
