In Kiev today, a controversial LGBT “equality march” was held against the backdrop of popular anti-LGBT protests. Just one of the multiple anti-LGBT protests is shown above. Given their European aspirations, the Ukrainian authorities were compelled to allow this LGBT march to take place. The event didn’t last long, however—about 30 minutes, including the pre-march gathering and the march itself. Afterward, participants were advised to go into the metro and disperse as quickly as possible, taking down LGBT symbols beforehand to avoid provocations. Reportedly, participants included activists, representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations, politicians from foreign countries, and international observers. At the same time, much larger gatherings of anti-march protesters took place. The crowds were determined to stop the LGBT event from happening.
