TAQUIRARI (also known as Takirari)
is the rhythm and dance most characteristic in the rural areas of Santa Cruz and Beni (Bolivia), which form the so called „Oriente Boliviano“.
It combines indigenous and Hispanic elements. It is believed that the name derives from the Moxeño language „takirikire“ which means „arrow“. It might have originated as a form of Moxo ritual music to invoke the god of hunting.
