Are fears over the use of generative AI in undermining European elections overblown? | DW News

The European elections are about to begin: from June 6th-9th, 350 million voters will be able to cast their ballots for the makeup of the European Parliament until 2029. Euroskeptics and nationalists look set to do well. Many cybersecurity experts warn of last-ditch attempts by malign actors to target European election candidates. While Russian disinformation networks are identified as the main actors in pushing false narratives, a European Union External Action Service from earlier this year concluded that many agents of disinformation are European politicians themselves.
