Money Jungle – Duke Ellington with Charles Mingus and Max Roach– Drum Transcription & Performance Real Book Drumming is an educational YouTube series of mine in which I transcribe and play mostly choruses of songs from the Real Book, the bible for all jazz players. In this video I present a drum transcription of the first 56 bars of the jazz song “Money Jungle“ composed by Duke Ellington from the album “Money Jungle“by Duke Ellington with Charles Mingus and Max Roach, recorded on September 17, 1962 in the Sound Makers Studios in New York City. “Money Jungle“, a 12-bar blues, is characterized by its unique treatment of dissonance, rhythmic complexity and a departure from traditional blues forms. The entire album represents a departure from Ellington’s familiar big band sound and features a more intimate and improvisational approach.
