Trindade Island Brazil: The Unexplained UFO Incident of 1958 The mysterious UFO sighting occurred over Trindade Island in Brazil, back in 1958. This incredible event was witnessed and photographed by crew members of the Brazilian ship Almirante Saldanha, which was participating in projects of the International Geophysical Year. On January 16th, 1958, around noon, Captain José Teobaldo Viegas and several scientists were on deck when they suddenly noticed a flying object with a ring around it, just like Saturn. Witnesses present reportedly saw the UFO at the same time, and it came towards the island from the east, flew towards the Pico Desejado, made a steep turn, and quickly went away to the northwest. Almiro Baraúna, the submarine photographer, was quickly sought for photography and managed to take several pictures of the object. After being disclosed, the pictures were exhaustively analyzed by the Brazilian Navy’s Aerial Reconnaissance Laboratory, and all the pictures were considered genuine and taken from a real occurrence with the certification of military personnel. Even Juscelino Kubitschek, the president of Brazil at that time, confirmed the authenticity of the pictures. To this day, because of the certification of the witnesses and the official recognition, the object in Almiro Baraúna’s pictures remains unexplained.
