The Big Five Personality Traits Model Explained

TRANSCRIPT: In this video, I discuss the Big Five model of personality traits. The Big Five factor theory of personality is important in personality psychology, but the model is also used in e.g., the psychology of organizational behavior and in criminology to explain crime and criminal behavior. But what are they? The Big Five dimensions of personality include: openness, conscientiousness, extroversion (or extraversion), agreeableness, and neuroticism. On each other these, people can score low or high (e.g. high openness, high neuroticism, low conscientiousness, etc.). Together, the first letters of these Big Five factors of personality spell “ocean” or “canoe”, which is helpful for remembering this inventory of traits. All in all, this video can function as a short documentary, review or audiobook on the Big Five factor model of higher-order personality traits.
