American Bandstand 1969 -Top 10- Youngbloods, Archies, Temptations- Green River, CCR

Airdate: September 20, 1969 50 Years Ago This Week… It is the end of the eventful summer of 1969 and the 3rd show of the new season and new set. The #1 song in the country for its first of 4 straight weeks is “Sugar, Sugar” by The Archies, “Green River” is at #3, “Get Together” is at #7 and “I Can’t Get Next To You” is at #10. Creedence Clearwater Revival made their first and only appearance on American Bandstand today. Several original videotapes from the 60’s had been discovered and featured on the 1992 broadcast of the “American Bandstand 40th Anniversary Special” including the few seconds I put in today’s clip. As this episode exists in color, I’m not sure why VH1 and Dick Clark decided to show the black & white kinescoped version of this episode in the 90’s and why the AwardsShowNetwork channel posted the black & white version of the interview with John Fogerty (?) Maybe the full episode was lost. At least we have a few precious seconds of color. Long-time regulars
