SURREY - The vice-principal of Regent Christian Academy has quit his job amid publicity over his handling of a sexual assault complaint from a 13-year-old student in 2002. Steve Paras submitted his resignation Wednesday night, school principal Paul Johnson said. Paras has not worked since Oct. 1 as a result of a four-month suspension of his teaching certificate ordered by the B.C. College of Teachers as discipline for his actions while principal of nearby White Rock Christian Academy. The college said he didn’t pass along information of the sexual assault as required by law, and then suspended the victim and kept her confined “for an inappropriate period of time“ during an investigation. Paras had been expected to return to Regent Christian Academy in January after his licence was reinstated, and Johnson indicated earlier that the school would welcome him back.
