Babe - Styx 1979

The power ballad “Babe“, by rock band Styx from Chicago, was the lead single from their triple platinum Cornerstone album. The song became a major hit reaching #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It was their only major UK hit single reaching #6, and hit the #1 spot on the Canadian RPM national singles chart. The song originally was a demo written by the then lead vocal Dennis DeYoung to his wife as he was preparing to leave on a tour. Though not intended to be on the Cornerstone album, the demo was added as a track with the over-dubbing of the guitar solo in the song’s middle section. Though Styx has performed at sold out venues in the late 70’s and early 80’s, and is the only group in R & R history to have four consecutive platinum albums in a row, have not been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame at this time. They have been inducted into the Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame.
