Meryl Streep and the long history of male Britannia honorees - 2015 British Academy Britannia Awards

It’s fitting that Meryl Streep was honored at the Britannia Awards in the year where she plays the great Emmeline Pankhurst, but she rightly reminded us that we have some work to do in honoring the great women of film history with our Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award. Since 2000, this award has gone to Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Clint Eastwood, Sean Penn, Denzel Washington, Warren Beatty, Robert De Niro, Jeff Bridges, Daniel Day-Lewis, George Clooney and, last year, Robert Downey
