[Act 3 Spoilers] [Astarion Romance] Illithid transformation reaction

This is what happens when you allow yourself to turn into a mindflayer right before the final showdown. Needless to say, Astarion doesn’t appreciate it, as can be hinted by him being disapproving of the very possibility of losing his handsome little consort before you can actually commit to it. In this playthrough Astarion finished the Black Mass, a rite sacrificing many lives, gaining a great deal of power by becoming an Ascendant Vampire. Him being turned into a Vampire Lord of such might makes him much more intense and possessive as a romance companion, but he loves you nonetheless.. until you sprout some tentacles.
