Xuefei Yang - Gente Humilde (Humble People) by Garoto (arr. Bellinati)

Xuefei plays the beautiful prelude, Gente Humilde (Humble People), by the great Brazilian composer Garoto. The piece was written for guitar around 1945. He was inspired to write this piece after visits to the poorer suburbs of Rio, inspired by the the ordinary people there. Some years after Garoto’s death, Chico Buarque and Vinicius de Moraes added lyrics and the song became an international success. Paulo Bellinati’s arrangement is his personal tribute to Garoto’s talent and musical style. Xuefei plays this piece from her studio at the time of the 2020 corona virus lock down. She has also recorded this piece on her Colours of Brazil CD, along with other music by Garoto, and other Brazilian composers.
