Stick with this one to the end. Alliant Techsystems video showing the Dec. 15 2009 ground test of its attitude control motor for the launch abort system for NASA’s Orion crew exploration vehicle. Eight valves are equally spaced around the circumference of the 3ft-diameter solid-propellant gas generator. Together they can generate up to 7,000lb of steering force to guide the Orion module and its launch abort system safely away from a malfunctioning Ares I booster.
