Steve Smith Vital Information NYC Edition – JBenJazz - Live

JBenJazz, written by guitarist Vinny Valentino, performed live at The Iridium Jazz Club NYC on October 28, 2011 is a great example of the supportive, yet truly outstanding, playing of bassist Baron Browne (March 5, 1960-September 2, 2021). Alto saxophonist Andy Fusco (January 31, 1948-April 5, 2021) is also featured on the melody and as a soloist. Of special note is the way Andy truly lifts the band during his solo at the end of tune. Vinny is also featured on solo guitar and my drum solo is over a 13/4 vamp that can be counted as a bar 6, plus a bar of 7. Mark Soskin provides solid support throughout. As I looked through some old hard drives, luckily, I found this series of Live at The Iridium videos. The sound was recorded and expertly mixed by our long-time live soundman, Tyler Soifer. And special mention also goes to video editor Christian Grassart who made the most of this single camera video shoot. Enjoy, Steve Smith
