International Students’ Day Anthem - “Gaudeamus igitur“

Student Jan Opletal 31 December 1914 – 11 November 1939 International Students’ Day held annually on 17 November commemorates the Czech universities which were stormed by Nazi German Gestapo in 1939 and the students who were subsequently killed and sent to concentration camps. Resistance was originally started on 28 October during demonstration for independence by the shooting of Jan Opletal, Czech medicine student of Charles University in Prague, who was killed by the German Police. Commemoration of the represion also started demonstration in 1989. Let us rejoyce While we are still young. After a pleasant youth After a troubling old age The earth will have us.
