Ten days after the Chernobyl meltdown in 1986, engineers confirmed that there is a risk of nuclear steam explosion. Three brave men, namely Alexei Ananenko, Valeri Bezpalov and Boris Baranov volunteered to be part of a suicide mission to dive under the nuclear plant and release a critical pressure valve in order to prevent the explosion. If it weren’t for them, a nuclear explosion would have taken place, resulting in hundreds of square miles into an inhabitable radioactive wasteland.
These three men knew that there was no chance of survival but they knew it must be done. huge respect.
